Kedarnath temple is closed during the winter months due to extreme weather conditions, and for the safety of visitors. The temple welcomes visitors from Akshaya Tritriya (April) to Kartik Purnima (November).
When the temple is closed, the deities (called vigrahas) are brought to Ukhimath and worshipped until it is opened again in April.

Kedarnath temple isn’t directly accessible by road. Visitors have to take an uphill trek of 18 kilometres from Gaurikund.
