The Common Mistakes People Make While Planning for International Travel

Planning an international tour can be a daunting task. Whether you are travelling internationally for the first time or zillionth time, we all tend to make a couple of careless mistakes that can cost us money when we are at the destination or make our trips a tad disappointing. But the good news is that with a little bit of more planning, we can avoid these gaffes and enjoy our vacation hassle-free.

Here are some common travel mistakes that you must be careful of while planning your international tour:

Mistake 1: Not checking visa requirements:

There are some countries that stipulate that the traveller carries proof of stay, enough amount of cash to cover their stay or has a sponsorship letter.
Visa requirements for different countries are different so thoroughly go through the rules to avoid any kind of hassle.

Mistake 2: Not buying travel insurance:

Travel insurance covers cancellation fees (if something goes wrong and you need to cancel your trip, you will get some part of the money that you have spent) and some plans also cover medical emergencies. This is very crucial in case you fall sick or meet with an accident while travelling.

Mistake 3: Not informing the bank:

These days most of the credit cards are accepted internationally, however, just to be on the safe side check with your bank before you leave for your trip. Also, inform your bank about travel plans —this will ensure you a smooth international access as banks often on safety grounds (fearing fraud) block a transaction when they see unusual activity.

Mistake 4: Not taking local currency:

While you can use your credit card whenever possible, you will need local currency to book cab rides or buy a SIM or eat at a roadside eatery.

Mistake 5: Not booking enough time between flights:

International travel often entails multi-city layovers. One must book flights in such a way that’s there’s plenty of time in between flights so that you can go through customs and immigration and still have time to catch your connecting flight. Plus, flight timings are not always predictable. If one gets delayed, you may face the risk of missing the connecting flight. So always keep buffer time.

Mistake 6: Not checking your cell phone plan:

People often learn it the hard way that international data roaming is filthy expensive. So just buy an international plan or buy a local SIM at the airport.

Mistake: 7 Overpacking:

Paying for extra baggage at the airport is just sheer waste of money. So, take only those outfits that you will for sure wear.

Mistake 8:

Too many activities in one trip: Booking too many activities can limit your chances to enjoy the experiences. Often people are so exhausted that they miss doing a few activities that they have already paid for. Keep time for relaxation and doing activities then and there.
